The local bird life is absolutely superb. The area is a nature lovers paradise! The garden is full of birds. Woodpeckers visit the feeders. Great tits nest in a tree in the garden every year and nuthatches bring up a family nearby.
The variety of local birds is too big to list but includes red kites, buzzards, jays, yellowhammers, goldcrests, wheatears and stonechats. Whooper swans (and sometimes a Bewick) visit the lake Llyn Yr Oerfa nearby. The Nant Yr Arian red kite feeding centre is only a few minutes drive away. With preparation it’s locally possible to see 90 or more species in a few days!
Other wildlife to watch out for includes hares, badgers, foxes, polecats, hedgehogs, rabbits and owls. There was a slow-worm sunning itself on the drive this summer. Children love to see the sticklebacks and tadpoles in the nearby stream, the Tuen. There's a fishing lake about a mile away.
There are Welsh poppies, orchids, mountain harebells, wild pansies, foxgloves, and other wild flowers. The local wild bilberries (whortleberries) and blackberries are great for pies!
